HYDRANT FLUSHING PROGRAM

Buckingham Park Water District has developed its Hydrant Flushing Program in order to develop minimum flushing standards and schedules. This process is performed for preventative maintenance and to ensure that our system is maintaining a constant supply of safe potable water. In addition, hydrant flushing is performed for increased water quality. Buckingham Park Water District has several dead-end lines that we monitor on a regular basis and flushing of these hydrants is necessary in order to serve our community with the highest standard of potable drinking water.

Studies show that with flushing organic material, sediments, loose corrosion and other debris can be removed from the distribution system. This process not only improves the color, taste and odor of our water but also helps remove harmful constituents. Flushing is the most effective and economical solution to cleanse the distribution system and maintain a steady chlorine residual for optimal water quality.

Staying Informed

Please review the hydrant flushing schedule for your area.  It is important to know when hydrant flushing is scheduled for your area as you may wish to flush your properties lines as well. Water at your property may be discolored due to any sediment in the water main that is disturbed by the hydrant flushing. If you notice discolored water after the hydrants are flushed in your neighborhood you can run your cold water for a few minutes until the discoloration disappears. You can also flush your toilets once or twice as well.
